Voice over IP (VoIP)
We operate a SIP to PSTN gateway service with global reach.
This service gives our customers the ability to place voice calls, over
the Internet, to any phone number, anywhere, saving money in the process.
For International calls, VoIP rates are generally 80 to 90 percent lower
than rates from conventional phone companies.
There are at least three ways you can use this service:
-
Through the use of SIP phones and/or headsets combined with softphones.
Good quality SIP phones are readily available (e.g., Linksys).
While this puts a second phone on the desk, it allows you to incrementally
increase your use of VoIP. For example, if you have
employees who need to call China frequently then supplying them
with a SIP phone would move you from perhaps an 80 cents a minute rate
to our 3 cents a minute rate.
Also, by using a USB headset with a softphone (e.g., eyeBeam from
CounterPath) on their laptop, your remote sales crew can make VoIP
calls, instead of expensive hotel room calls, typically from anywhere
in the world.
-
At the PBX level.
We install a device between your PBX and your
phones lines (analog lines, channelized T1 or PRI)
and program this device to route calls either out MainStreet VoIP
or out the conventional path to the phone company.
The calling plan can be as complex or simple as you like.
For example, you could decide to route all international calls
through MainStreet, or just a few select countries.
This installation requires no changes on the desktop, and no changes
in how you dial numbers. The end users do not even need to be aware
that some of their calls are being routed over VoIP. This is also
remarkably safe in the sense that a SIP call set-up failure will
automatically, and quickly, roll over to your existing phone circuits.
-
Complete company-wide change to VoIP
This involves changing everything from the phones to the PBX
to take advantage of IP. We can help you design, acquire, and set-up
such a system.

options for Voice over IP.
